Cherie's Experience

Clinical Practice

Based in Brisbane, and with more than 30 years experience as a psychologist, Cherie has worked across university, rehabilitation, employee assistance programs, palliative and cancer care, WorkCover, rural and community mental health, medical and mental health hospital, and multidisciplinary settings, as well as more than 26 years in private practice.

Her broad clinical experience enables her to provide thoughtful, practical, emotionally-attuned, and evidence-based psychological care. She is experienced in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and mindfulness-based approaches, underpinned by a relational and attachment-informed approach.

She attained a Master of Clinical Psychology in 1999 from the University of Queensland and is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society, College of Clinical Psychologists. She has extensive experience in clinical governance, practice development and the training and supervision of psychologists.

Cherie feels the balance of clinical work, together with mentorship in the profession has been particularly valuable in maintaining contemporary knowledge and experience.

I think therapy is about making sense of what's going on, figuring out what matters, and finding ways to move forward. It's also about a collaborative space, where people can be seen and understood, and also have a laugh when needed.

Supervision and Training

Cherie brings extensive experience in the supervision, training and professional development of psychologists, alongside more than 30 years of clinical practice. She is a STAP-trained, AHPRA-approved clinical supervisor.

Her work has included supervising psychologists across all stages of career, including 5+1 internships, university placements, and clinical psychology registrars.  She has been involved in designing professional training and development programs, including the Psychology Registrar Endorsement Program (PREP) where she is a trainer, individual clinical supervisor, and facilitator of supervision groups for registrars. PREP supports psychologists as they work toward an Area of Practice Endorsement.

As Program Manager and Trainer for the Supervisor Training and Approval Program (STAP), she contributes to the management, training and evaluation of Board-approved psychology supervisors and the maintenance of high quality supervision training in Australia.

Cherie supervises for university programs, including the University of Tasmania clinical program, and offers supervision for psychologists at all career stages, including business ownership and AHPRA-mandated supervision.

Cherie's approach to supervision is strongly informed by her ongoing clinical work and practice ownership,  believing this keeps her connected to the realities of psychological practice.

Therapy Session

I see supervision as a safe place where curiosity, pursuit, reflection and development can flourish, and where psychologists can think, learn, challenge themselves, share the positives, the tricky stuff, and also have a laugh.
